The Naja goes back to the early 1800's and is still used today by the Navajo's, Zuni's, and Hopi's. It is most commonly seen on the Squash Blossom and is known to ward off the evil eye and is considered to represent well-being and good luck.
Robert Chee is a local Navajo artist in Gallup, New Mexico. Chee has been silversmithing for over 35 years practicing both contemporary and traditional art. He comes from a long line of very successful silversmiths and many of the tools and lead molds he uses today have been handed down to him from many generations ago. Chee has nine brothers and sisters including famous decreased artist Harry Morgan. Both brothers have made their mark in the Native American Jewelry Industry as you can find their work collected by the top galleries and private collectors across the country.
